Corduroy Fabric Hearts
In just about a week it is Mother’s Day and these corduroy hearts could just be the perfect gift for your mom! My mom chose a great heart shape and wonderfully textured fabric to make this little sewing project. So go ahead and break out that sewing machine and get ready!!
What you need:
Corduroy fabric
Sewing yarn
Sewing machine
Zig-zag fabric scissors (normal ones won’t work because the fabric will fray)
Normal scissors
Wooden beads
Burlap yarn
Cotton stuffing
Instructions:
Find a heart outline that you like and print it out or draw your own heart in the size you want your finished hearts to be. Cut out the heart and use it as a stencil on the fabric. Double your fabric so that the right sides (pretty sides) are outside. Trace the heart about 1cm (0.4in) away from the stencil. Cut the fabric as a big square around the heart. (Picture 1)
Cut off a 4 inch (10cm) piece of the burlap yarn and put it aside.
Start sewing on the side of the heart going downwards towards the tip of the heart. Sew about a foot wide inside the marker lines. (Picture 2) Keep sewing until you reach the first bow. Insert one end of the burlap yarn. (Picture 3) Then keep sewing and attach the yarn this way. Leave about 2 inches (4cm) open to insert the stuffing. (Picture 4) After filling the heart, sew the last few inches with the sewing machine.
Take the zig-zag scissors and cut off the marker lines. (Picture 5) Careful to not cut the burlap yarn.
Add the wooden bead to the yarn, then tie a knot into the yarn. For that, fold the yarn in half and wrap it around your fingers once. Then pull the folded end through the loop and tighten the knot. Cut off any extra and finished is your heart! And it wasn’t even that heart right!?
