Barefoot Path in Appenzell, Switzerland
A few weeks ago we got to do a family trip to Appenzell Innerrhoden. This area of Switzerland is one of the most beautiful places in the world! I love all the green pastures, the animals, and farms sprinkled over the hills. We’ve already made a lot of different trips to that area since it is fairly close to my home. One of the trips was to the famous Aescher, a restaurant built into the mountain rock!
This time we chose to do a barefoot hiking path - which is just what it says. You start the hike by taking off your shoes and walk across green pastures, through freshly cut grass, freeze your feet off in a mountain creek, and end with a leg mud bath in a muddy stream.
What surprised me most about it was how unused to barefoot walking I was. You’ll definitely feel your feet by the end of the hike. Nothing bad, but I could just tell that I usually wear shoes! Overall I can definitely recommend the hike, it is short and flat and a great trip to do with kids as well!
Start: Jakobsbad
End: Gontenbad
Distance: 5.3 km (3.3mi)
Duration: 1h 30min
You can do the hike in either direction. To get back to the car you can go on the train for 4min and you are back where you started!
