Fort Worth Stockyards
Ohh this Fort is so Worth it!!! (hahaha) okay, terrible pun, but it is true. We loved this small city right next to Dallas and we were happy we stopped there on our trip. With a population of just under a million it has a very manageable size. We stayed a bit outside the city as we got to be with family during our stay. We loved how friendly the people were and that we got to see some cowboy stuff.
Cattle drive
On the first day we drove into the city to see the cattle drive. They are walking the cows down the street twice a day by the Fort Worth Stockyards. The first showing is at 11:30 AM and the second at 4PM. We went to see this attraction in the afternoon, but due to the heat, they had to reschedule. It ended up being around 108°F (42°C) outside! We still got to see a shooting show featuring “The Legends of Texas” instead of the cattle drive. Though it was fun to watch, and they actually shot with real guns (or were they riffles??? Or pistols??? I never know…(editor Joshua here: pistols!!)). I was disappointed we didn’t get to see the famous Texas Longhorns this time, so we decided to come back the next day for the morning show. I was very happy we decided to do so, as the cows were very impressive to see! The horns were massive and all I could think of was how would they ever fit into a barn!
Shopping
After seeing the majestic cows, we went to explore the shops in the area. We got to talk to the owner of M.L. Leddy’s, a cowboy boot store and workshop. He was very friendly and explained a whole lot about the artistry.
At another store we got to learn more about cowboy hats and the different folds in the top of the hat. I never knew there were so many different ones!
In the area you can also find a large variety of great barbecue and drinks. Make sure to stop by and explore!

Fort Worth Stockyards
Wow, es war es so wert auf unserer Reise nach Fort Worth zu gehen. Wir liebten die kleine Stadt neben Dallas. Mit einer Einwohnerzahl von etwas weniger als eine Million hat es die Grösse von Zürich. Wir wohnten bei meiner Schwägerin und Familie etwas ausserhalb von Fort Worth, aber wir schafften es trotzdem zweimal in die Stadt. Wir liebten es wie freundlich die Leute waren und dass wir einige Cowboysachen sehen konnten.
Cattle Drive
Der Cattle Drive ist ein Viehumzug, der durch die Fort Worth Stockyards geht. Zweimal täglich um 11:30 und 16 Uhr reiten einige Cowboys auf Pferden durch die Strasse und leiten die berühmten Texas Langhornkühe in die richtige Richtung. Wir wollten die Nachmittagsshow sehen, aber wegen der grossen Hitze, es war um die 42°C heiss, hielten sie eine Schiessshow anstelle des Umzugs. Auch wenn es lustig war der Show zuzusehen und sie sogar mit richtigen Pistolen (oder waren es Gewehre??? Ich weiss das nie…) schossen, war ich trotzdem enttäuscht, dass ich die majestätischen Tiere nicht sehen konnte. Wir versuchten es am nächsten Tag für den Morgenumzug nochmals und waren sehr glücklich, dass wir es geschafft hatten! Definitiv wert nochmals in die Stadt zu fahren!
Shopping
Nach dem Umzug besuchten wir einige der Läden in der Stockyards Gegend. Im M.L. Leddy’s, ein Cowboystiefelladen, konnten wir viel vom Geschäftsinhaber über die Kunst des Cowboystiefels lernen. In einem weiteren Laden lernten wir mehr über die Cowboyhüte und die vielen verschiedenen Falten, die im oberen Teil des Hutes eingebaut werden können.
In der Gegend gibt es auch viele verschiedene Optionen für echtes Texas Barbeque!
