Scones
This morning I spontaneously decided to make scones for breakfast. I was super excited when I saw how easy they are to make and that I already had all the ingredients at home too! (Otherwise I wouldn’t have made them that morning, I was too hungry…) At first I followed the recipe but then realized that I didn’t like some of the things about it, so I changed it up a bit. So here is the recipe which will only take you 30 minutes from start to finish:
Recipe for 15 scones:
Ingredients:
Dough:
225g flour
1 tsp baking powder
50g butter
50g sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp steel cut oats
optional: 2tbsp raisins
150ml milk
Toppings:
70g cream cheese
150g sour cream
1 tbsp vanilla sugar
jam (you can use any kind, we really liked strawberry jam though
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 180°C (360°F). Mix flour, baking powder and butter in a bowl. You will have to crumble the butter with your fingers. It will still be very floury. (Picture 1) Add oats, salt, sugar and if you want raisins. I made half with raisins and half without. Add the milk and mix everything into a dough. If it ist too sticky add more flour. (Picture 2)
Roll out the dough so it is about 0.5 inches thick. (1 - 1.5cm) (Picture 3) Then use a round cookie cutter (Ø = 2 inches or 5cm) If you don’t have a cookie cutter you can use a glas or mini bowl to cut the dough. (like I did in photo 4) Put the scones on a baking tray with baking sheet. (Picture 5) Bake for 10 - 15 minutes. You can test if they are done by stabbing one scone with a sharp knife or a tooth pick. If you pull out the knife and dough is sticking to it, then they are not done yet. Does it still seem clean, then the scones are ready to eat.
Let the scones cool down for a bit. Mix the cream cheese, sour cream and vanilla sugar in a bowl. Cut the scones in half horizontally. Now you can add some of the cream cheese mix and jam on the scone and they are ready to be eaten!
