Naturally Dyed Eggs with Onion Skins
Every year I dye Eggs with the people at the nursery home. We like to do it the natural way. We used the onion skin to dye the eggs. We also always take brown eggs since they turned out to look nicer.
This is what you need: (you can see in the picture as well)
Bowl with water
old tights
thread
brown eggs
old pan (the onion skin broth could dye the pan permanently
herbs
scissors
Instructions:
Go outside and pick different leaves and herbs from the garden. Usually you can find a lot in your lawn. You want to find nice ones as you will put them on the egg and the shape will be seen in the end.
Fill pan with water and the onion skin and bring to boil.
Take an egg and chose the herbs you want to use. Dip them into the water so they will stick to the egg. Place them on the egg shell. You can do several herbs per egg. Take the tight and wrap it around the egg very tight. Twist the ends and bind it up with the string. Do this with all your eggs.
Put all the eggs into the broth until the egg is boiled. Let them cool down and then take away the tights and the leaves.
Polish eggs with a little bit of oil on a paper towel.
