Pizza Bread: The Perfect Twist on Pizza
Today I will be sharing with you a family recipe that is one of my favorites. It might sound super simple to you, which it is, but sometimes the simple things can bring just as much joy. My favorite part is that you can make it the night before and eat some for dinner or you can bring it to lunch anywhere. It can just as well be eaten cold. Add a big salad to it and you have a full on meal!
Recipe for one loaf:
Ingredients:
Dough
400g flour
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
15g fresh yeast
2.5dl water
Toppings
100g thin sliced ham
1/2 bell pepper
1 mozzarella
50g grated parmesan
1/2 zucchini
salt, pepper
dried or fresh herbs (oregano, thyme, rosemary)
coarse salt
Instructions:
Mix the flour and salt in a big bowl. Add olive oil, water and yeast to it. Kneed the dough until it is smooth. If it seems too sticky to you, add more flour. Let the dough rise in a covered bowl for 1h.
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin. It should be pretty thin.
Cut zucchini, bell pepper, ham and mozzarella into small pieces. The smaller the better, like this it will be easier to roll the bread. Spread all the ingredients on the pizza dough. Make sure to leave a little bit of the dough free at the end. (Picture 1 on the left side) Add parmesan, salt, pepper and herbs to the pizza.
Now start to roll up your dough into a bread. (Picture 2) Roll as tight as possible. Once it is rolled up, put it on a baking tray with a baking sheet. Ideally you lay the bread on it’s fold, so it doesn’t open up while baking in the oven. Brush the bread with olive oil and sprinkle a little bit of coarse salt over it. Bake the bread at 200°C (400° F) for 30 minutes.
