Window Decorations- Fensterdekoration

Finally I got to make some new window decorations for our kitchen. I was trying to find something green, that would survive indoors but also wouldn’t need a lot of time and care from me. A couple of days ago I had the sparking idea. Luckily the gardening stores have been open for a little bit here, so I could buy the needed supplies. I am happy to share with you my DIY window decor. I hope you’ll have fun trying it out.

What you need: (Photo 1)

3 glasses or old cans (I used a candle glass from Ikea)
5m of plaster cloth
small container of water
scissors
wood sticks
dirt
sand
gravel
paper
ribbon
succulents or other plants

Instructions:

Cover your working space with newspaper. Then cut the plaster cloth in small strips. (Photo 2) Dip the strips fully into the water. (Photo 3) Then lay it on the glass, stroking over the whole plaster cloth. Keep putting new cloth on the glass until you’ve covered everything twice. (I did the top part first and let it dry a bit. Then I placed the glass upside down on the wood sticks, so it wouldn’t stick to the newspaper. Then I did the bottom half.) (Photo 4 + 5)
Let the plaster dry over night.
Pour the gravel into the glass about 1 inch deep. For the succulents you now want to mix the dirt with sand. Then plant the succulent. (Photo 6 - 8)
Cut a paper into a one inch strip. Wrap it around the glass. Then tie a string over it. You can decorate the glass more if you wish to. (Photo 9 - 12)

Endlich konnte ich für unser Küchenfenster eine neue Dekoration machen. Ich suchte schon für eine Weile nach etwas Grünem, das nicht zu viel Pflege brauchte. Vor ein paar Tagen dann hatte ich die zündende Idee. Ich nahm alte Gläser von Ikeakerzen und aus dem Baugeschäft, welches zu Glück wieder offen war, holte ich das nötige Zubehör. Dann ging es natürlich gleich ran an das Werk. Während des Prozesses habe ich fleissig fotografiert, damit ihr mitbasteln könnt:

3 Gläser oder alte Büchsen
5m Gipsbinden
Kleines Gefäss mit Wasser
Schere
Lange Holzspiesse
Zeitung oder Malunterlage
Papier
Geschenksband
Sukkulenten oder andere Pflanzen
Erde
Sand
Kieselsteine
evt. Heissleim

Anleitung:

Decke den Arbeitsplatz mit der Malunterlage oder Zeitung ab. Schneide die Gipsbinde in kleine Streifen. (Bild 2) Nimm einen Streifen und tunke ihn ins Wasser. (Bild 3) Lege die nasse Gipsbinde auf das Glas und verstreiche den Gips ein wenig. Wiederhole diese Schritte, bis das ganze Glas mit zwei Lagen bedeckt ist. (Ich habe zu erst den oberen Teil des Glases gemacht, es kurz trocknen lassen, dann den Boden gemacht und das Glas zum Trocknen umgedreht auf die Holzspiesse gelegt.) (Bild 4 + 5)
Lasse den Gips über Nacht trocknen.
Fülle das Glas ca. 1.5 cm tief mit Kies. Mische dann die Erde mit Sand (nur für Sukkulenten) und pflanze die Pflanzen ein. (Bild 6 - 8)
Schneide einen 3cm breiten Papierstreifen ab und lege ihn um das Glas. Binde ein Geschenksband darum. Nun kannst du nach Belieben dekorieren - und schon ist deine Dekoration fertig. (Bild 9 - 12)
