Small Thank-You-Present - Dankesmitbringsel

My job at the nursery home requires a lot of extra creativity this season. The lack of visitors and strong restrictions on activities can easily cause in boredom for many of our residents. Whether it’s through festive decor or by organizing unique crafting projects for them, I try and make their day brighter any way I can.

I am also in charge of our volunteer staff who do everything from serving coffee to taking our residents out for walks. Every year we have a brunch to thank them for their excellent work and time invested. Due to the restrictions we weren’t allowed to gather, so I had to find a creative way of thanking them. So instead, I thought I would make them each a kind of creative thank you card! I came up with the idea to make a transparent star out of paper and fill it with snowflakes and stars. On the big star I wrote a quote and added a thank you note. Later we’d send all the stars to the volunteer’s homes.

Here is how you can make your own:

What you need:

• transparent paper or baking sheets

• thread

• paper

• ribbon

• hole punch

• printer

• sewing machine

How to make:

1. Find a star template you like online and copy it into a word document. Find a quote or write your own words of wisdom into the middle of it. It works best if you make a textbox, since that allows you to move the text to the right position in the star. Then print it on the transparent paper. (Picture 1)

2. Take a second empty piece of paper and lay it behind the printed paper. Attach it with a paper clip. (Picture 2) Then start sewing just a few millimetres next to the line of the star. For sewing such things I like to use the “needle down mode” so when I want to turn the star my needle stays in the same position. Sew all the sides except for one side. (Picture 3) That’s where you’ll fill in the paper snowflakes. To start and finish the sewing you can sew back and forward, so the stitching doesn’t reopen. Cut out the star with scissors. 3. Use your hole punch and start cutting out snowflakes and stars. Fill them into the transparent star. Then finish the sewing and close the stitching. (Picture 6 + 7)

4. Cut out paper strips about 1 inch wide and write your thank you message on it. Then make a hole with a round hole punch into all the paper strips and the top point of the transparent star. (Picture 8 + 9) Take a ribbon and attach the thank you note to the star and your thank you present is finished. (Picture 10)

In dieser Zeit beansprucht meine Arbeit im Altersheim viel meiner Kreativität. Ich möchte nicht nur, dass die Bewohner diese Zeit gesund überleben, sondern, dass sie auch glücklich sind. Da momentan die Anzahl Besucher pro Tag beschränkt ist und viele der anderen Aktivitäten nicht stattfinden können, ist der Alltag der Menschen ein wenig monoton. Deshalb möchte ich das in meiner Macht Stehende tun, um es ihnen bei uns angenehm zu machen.

Dieses Mal musste ich für die freiwilligen Helfer kreativ sein, da der jährliche Dankesbrunch abgesagt wurde. Ich hatte die Idee einen Stern aus transparentem Papier zu machen und diesen dann mit Schneeflocken und Sternen zu füllen. Auf den grossen Stern schrieb ich einen Spruch und machte eine kleine Dankesnotiz.

So könnt ihr es nachmachen:

Material:

• Transparentes Papier oder Backpapier

• Faden

• Papier

• Geschenksband

• Stanzer für Füllmaterial und Locher

• Drucker

• Nähmaschine

Anleitung:

1. Suche einen Stern online, der dir gefällt und kopiere ihn in ein Worddokument. Suche einen Spruch und schreibe ihn (oder deine eigenen Worte) in den Stern. Am besten geht das mit einer Textbox, da du diese dann einfach herumschieben kannst. Drucke alles auf das Transparentpapier. (Bild 1)

2. Nimm ein zweites Blatt Transparentpapier und lege es hinter den bedruckten Bogen und befestige ihn mit einer Büroklammer. (Bild 2) Nähe mit einem Geradstich nur ganz wenig neben der Line des Sterns. Um solche Sachen zu nähen benutze ich gerne die Nadelstopptaste. So bleibt die Nadel im Papier unten, wenn ich mit dem nähen aufhöre. Das macht das Wenden der Arbeit um vieles leichter, da dann die Nadel immer in der selben Position bleibt. Nähe alle Seiten bis auf eine. (Bild 3) Dort werden die Schneeflocken eingefüllt. Beim Start und Ende des Nähens immer vor und zurück nähen, damit sich die Naht nicht öffnet. Schneide den Stern mit einer Schere aus. (Bild 4 + 5)

3. Nimm den Stanzer und stanze Schneeflocken und Sterne aus dem Papier aus. Fülle diese in den grossen Stern. Nähe die offene Seite zu. (Bild 6 + 7)

4. Schneide ca 2cm breite Papierstreifen aus und schreibe die Dankesnotiz darauf. Mache ein Loch mit dem Locher in alle Streifen und in den oberen Spitz des Sterns. (Bild 8 + 9) Nimm das Geschenksband und befestige damit die Papierstreifen am Stern; damit ist das Geschenk fertig! (Bild 10)
