How to Plan a Greenhouse Wedding on a Budget
Are you dreaming of a wedding in a greenhouse? Or are you just curious about what that might look like? Today I want to talk a bit about general important things to know about getting married in a greenhose, what decorating for a wedding in there could look like and of course share a lot of photos of what it was like for us. These pictures are from our own wedding - You can read our story here.
A few things you should know when getting married in such a beautiful venue:
It will definitely be a lot of work! Our greenhouse wasn’t a wedding location at all. In fact, we were the second couple to get married there. That meant that there wasn’t an infrastructure for that at all. We had to organize everthing starting from the chairs and ending with the toilet.
It might get hot, or cold or loud… A greenhouse is not a house, which you probably knew. But that means that the weather will have a bigger influence on the temperatures inside. We got married on a beautiful sunny summer day. Since greenhouses cause the famous greenhouse effect, we were also kept very warm during our wedding. That is to say - it was really hot! Pretty much all of our guests still talk about how hot it was on our wedding. Organising a toilet ended up being needless because everyone was sweating so much.
It won’t be cheaper than other places. Because you need to organize a lot of things so the venue works for a wedding, the cost will be about the same as for a “normal” venue.
Decoration:
To start out with you will want to find out how many plants are going to be in the room on your special day. Our place was more of a winter storage for plants, so it was more on the empty side. This will determine how many plants and things you need to buy.
Go big:
A greenhouse can be a really big, tall room. If you just have some small bouquets attached to chairs they will get lost in the giant room. So find things that are voluminous and fill space. Flowers are expensive. If you don’t have the means to buy 50 giant bouquets you’ll want to find voluminous things that are not flowers. Here’s what we did:
We ended up buying like 200 tissue paper pompoms. (Yes we had to open them all up - I am beyond thankful for all my friends!!) We had a lot of them hanging down from above which optically lowered the ceiling. The rest were attached to the chairs.
Wooden boards. As you might know, I really like lettering. So I lettered on ten wooden boards which were put along the aisle. In addition to that we had a welcome sign.
Bows: We had two big bows wrapped with a white cloth. The first bow showed the entry to the aisle and the second bow was like a frame on stage.
Use the plants you are given from the greenhouse. We extended the aisle with nice bushes we found at our venue.
Flowers:
I really wanted a burlap and lace themed wedding with green and white flowers. We used hydrangeas, ivy (which is cheap and voluminous), different kinds of roses, baby’s breath, lady’s mantles and different kinds of grass.
